Happy Easter

I love Easter, but I also have mixed feelings about how we usually celebrate it. We didn't really do much in the way of "traditional Easter stuff" like easter eggs, candy, etc....mostly because Emily is still too young for it and because we haven't quite figured out how to make it what we want. I do want to continue to color eggs and have an egg hunt, but I don't think I really want to do Easter baskets with candy and junk. I would like to keep the focus on the Resurrection, where it should be. I would love to hear about your family traditions with Easter and ideas on ways we can be a little less pagan about it.

That being said, we had a very nice day at church and then enjoyed an Easter Feast with our friends the Martins and the Lymans (plus the Elders too!).

We tried to take some pictures after church, but as Emily was way past nap time we just snapped a couple really quickly. The family pic is obviously taken by me reaching out trying to guess where our heads are...guess I didn't do to well. I don't love the picture, but I thought that since we all looked wierd that it was kind of funny...maybe.

Totally agree about the sabbath being just that on Easter. You can check out my blog to see what we did (all celebrated during the week leading up to Easter Sunday). I also had friends growing up who had a "spring basket" a few weeks before easter so that Easter was only about Christ.

Hey Becky,

My parents stopped having the Easter Bunny come when I was little. We do Easter Egg hunts and that is about it. When I do my own in the future I think I might do them after Easter because all the candy is 1/2 off!

We need to start doing something more focused on Christ though, but I need to think of some things. One thing my sister does with her kids is make tomb rolls. She makes buscuits or something and they wrap the dough around marshmallows. Then when they take them out of the oven, the marshmallow has dissapeared--just like when the tomb was empty when Mary came. If you want more details, let me know and I can get the specifics from my sister on what she actually does.

Wish the Glenns could have been there. Our Easter dinner alone was rather pathetic. I won't even mention how we used instant potatoes (food storage). I think Saturday is a good day for all the "other" easter stuff. Our ward did an Easter egg hunt the weekend before and that was good for us.

For Sunday my mom just found this idea in the Ensign of putting a little paper doll Jesus in the tomb on Friday and then Sunday morning when the kids wake up the tomb is empty and you can expound on the story from there. I like it.

When are you moving to Elk Grove?
