Summer Vacation

This year we decided to head out to San Antonio Texas for our summer vacation. We were really hoping to be going to Hawaii this summer but of course we weren't planning on being 20 weeks pregnant with twins right now. We had a ton of fun but as usual didn't take as many pictures as we should have.

To start I just need to give a huge shout-out to Josh's brother Ward and his family and our friends Ross and Amber for hosting us during the week. Not only was it great not to pay for a hotel, but we had a super fun time hanging out and spending time with all of you! Thanks so much!

The flight started with a great flight over. I wasn't really sure how it would go because it was during Emily's nap and she's not a great car sleeper....thankfully we lucked out and she slept about half the way there and was happy during the time that she wasn't. She loved having a window seat and was excited to be going "fast" on the plane.


I think our favorite part of the trip was our trip to Corpus Christi (or Carcas as Emily called it) on the first day with Josh's brother Ward and his family. We had never been to the Gulf coast before and we were surprised at how different the beaches are there. The beach itself is pretty short and the sand is very rough. The other wierd thing was the town itself. It definately wasn't what you're used to in California as the typical beach town. It was small, and looked kind of old and run down with only old motels for staying in. All of that said though we LOVED swimming there. The water was sooo warm, (way warmer than Hawaii in fact) and the waves were relatively gentle. We were able to take Emily out in the big waves and she had a great time. We never do this at home because the big waves are actually BIG and I'm always afraid of droping and losing her. Oh I wish our water in CA was so warm!






On another day we went to the zoo with our friends. When you first walk into the zoo they have this big bronze statue of lions that all of the kids wanted to climb on. Unfortunately when we first got there there were a bunch of people waiting to take pictures so we had to wait...Emily's not too great at waiting which is why she's throwing a huge fit in this first picture.


The first exhibit was of bears. This was Emily's first trip to the zoo and I think it was pretty fun for her to see what real animals look like, not just a picture in the book. I thought it was really cute how she had to run up and stand on the fence like the big kids.


Most of the pitures we got at the zoo were just like this one...the back of Emily's head. She was so interested in looking at the exhibits that she wouldn't give the camera the time of day. We were sad not to get better pictures, but happy that she had such a fun time.


One of the coolest things at the zoo was the butterfly exhibit. Pitures do not do this place justice. Tons of butterfly's flying all over the place and landing on you. Definately worth the extra dollar for admission.


My favorite part about the zoo was the fun little "beach" for the kids to play at. It was so nice to just plop down on a bench and let the kids have fun in the water.

Our last great adventure during the trip was a trip to the Schlitterbahn water park. We had seen a PBS special on the park a few years ago and had promised ourselves that we would go there one day. I doubt we really got the most for our money by going when I'm pregnant and with a small child but we still had a really fun time playing in the kiddie pools. One of my favorite things about the park is that the Comal river runs all the way around it, so as you are walking around the park there is almost always a beautiful view of the river. As you can imagine, it's tough to carry around a camera at a water park...not to mention pictures of me in a swim suit are highly undesireable right now so we really didn't get any good pictures. The good news is that we will definately be going back again some day and hope to take pictures then (post tummy-tuck and liposuction...haha)!
