So last night we went to Costco to pick up a few things and have hot dogs for dinner. After checking out I headed over to the food lines with Spencer and Haley in the basket while Josh went to save us a seat with Emily and Collin. While I was waiting in line Emily came over and wanted to be with me so I stuck her in the basket.
After getting our food I was standing at the soda fountain filling all of our cups. I had them all filled and then picked up all of the cups with my two hands (not an easy thing) and turned to set them on the next counter where the lids and straws were. Suddenly, while I had my back to the kids my cart gets slammed into the back of me. Out of the corner of my eye I see a woman shove (very hard) my cart about two feet. Emily, who had been standing in the back of the basket went flying. Fortunately she didn't fall out of the cart or really get hurt. I guess landing right in the middle of a giant slice of pizza padded her fall.
This is when I went all mama bear on the lady. I was really just shocked that someone would do something like that on purpose. I asked (loudly) what the lady thought she was doing. She proceeded to yell at me that I was taking too long at the soda fountain and blocking her way with my cart. Seriously? She goes crazy and risks hurting kids in a basket because she had to wait an extra minute to fill her cup!
All she had to do was ask me nicely to move. I hadn't even realized I was in the way. I'm sure when I had origionally parked my cart there that I was boxed in. People had moved and I hadn't. I'm sure you all know how crazy it is at Costco with those huge carts and people everywhere.
I told her she was the rudest person I've met and Emily blew a rasberry at her. She's lucky I didn't just yell profanities at her. I'll tell you, I haven't said a bad word in probably over 20 years and I rarely even think a bad word, but there were a couple close to the surface last night.
After putting the lids on the drinks I turned to head for our table. Right at the same moment this same lady started to walk towards me heading for the exit. I then cut her off with my basket and very sarcastically apologized for doing so. That's when she shoved me and tryed to spill her drink on me. Luckily she missed and ended up only getting soda all over herself. oops. Anyway, there's my guilt in the whole thing. I should have been big enough to let her skulk away silently. Really though, I think she's pretty lucky that's the worst I did considering how mad I was.
In the end it seems a lot less of a deal now that the moment has passed....but really, risk hurting kids over a soda? Get real.

Oh my word, what a psycho lady! Who does that? I think you were pretty darn nice considering what she did. I've never hit anybody, but that would have made me come really close. Wow. What a witch. I'm so glad your kids didn't get hurt.
I think I would have punched her, so you showed a lot of restraint..also don't feel bad about confronting her again because you may have regretted not doing it later because she was so awful to you. It floors me that someone would shove a cart with a child in it...I seriously might have killed her.
What is this world coming to? I just can't believe how rude some people are, and for the stupidest reasons. I think I would have done something that I would need to talk to the bishop about, especially if she risked hurting my kids.
srsly, I would have gone nuts. you do NOT hurt a kid! GRRR!
I am always amazed at how rude and selfish people are. It makes me crazy! She's lucky that's all you did...
I was fuming for almost an hour after I read this post! A more Christ-like person would have advised you to just turn the other cheek, but I'm thinking you didn't do nearly enough to that lady. I guess that's why I'm still here on earth...
I can't believe this. Some people are so rude leaving there carts in the way of others. I completely defend the actions of this innocent lady just trying to get a soda.
That last comment was from Ryan.
