MRI and Surgury...our Frankenbaby

So it's been a long couple of days. Yesterday Emily had an MRI and today she had a surgury to remove a cyst from above her eye. Surprisingly I think the MRI day was worse, mostly because I was alone, because it was late in the afternoon and she was hungry. We were told not to feed her anything after 9AM and to report at 1PM for a 2PM appointment. The problem is when I got there they said she shouldn't have eaten after 6AM so we had to wait an additional 2 hours before they could sedate her for the proceedure. So we had 3 hours to kill in a hospital with a baby who hadn't had a nap and who hadn't eaten since 9AM. I was ready to die! Fortunately the heavens smiled on us and she was a saint the entire time. She didn't even ask for anything to eat or drink until a few minutes prior to being taken back. She was a trooper with the IV, but was screaming for Mommy when they took her away (I couldn't take her to the room because of being pregnant). That was definately the worst part. 30 minutes later she was waking up and we went home.

Then this morning we had to report at 6:30 for a 7:30 surgury. It's so much better going first thing in the morning (even though I hated getting up early myself). Today they gave her some Vercet which drugged her up pretty well before they took her away from us and she rolled away loopy and happy with the anesthesiologist. So much easier to leave her when she's not screaming and scared. The proceedure took about 40 minutes and went perfectly.

When she woke up she was a little hostile, but calmed down pretty quickly after being given some more drugs and slept in our arms for a good 2 hours before being discharged. Although she was pretty freaked out when she finally woke up and started screaming that she was "stuck" because she wanted to be disonnected from all of the machines and IV.

She's doing great at home minus some barfing and a little pain. I think the highlight of this experience for her is that she has made the transition from infants Tylenol to Childrens chewables. She thinks they're candy, and I'm happy not to have to pin her down to give her the liquid.

Here's the beauty queen after arriving home. It's a bit more swollen and bruised now and I imagine it will be worse yet tomorrow. I'll get some new shots later. For now we're just grateful it's over and that she's doing well.

Reovery Update:

2 days later - I think at two days out she was at her worst. She was feeling okay, just looking really bad. It's now a week out and she looks pretty good, her eye is still a little swollen and red but really not too bad at all.

Poor little thing! I'm glad everything went relatively smoothly. I laughed at her upside down pacifier. Cady was a pacifier lover too.

You look really good for being 51 days out from having twins. Although I'm sure it's less days than that!

Sounds like a fairly traumatic experience for everyone involved. Glad it turned out well in the end. :)
