New cribs...advice wanted.

As of today I am the proud new owner of two new (used) matching cribs. I totally scored and got them for $80 each on Craigslist. They are in pretty good shape other than some normal wear and tear and teeth marks. Maybe I will sand them down a bit and repaint them...maybe. I never imagined that I'd end up needing 3 cribs at once, it's kind of wierd. I really debated between buying one or two, but in the end I just don't want the pressure of having to boot Emily from her crib until we're really ready, and since I got them for such a great price I figured why not?

Anyway, here's my question. They gave me the mattresses that went with the cribs. I didn't realize until I got there that the price included the mattresses. The thing is that I'm not really sure how comfortable I am sleeping my babies on used mattresses. I've read stuff about used mattresses increasing the rate of SIDS, plus I'm sure the 3 year old twins who previously owned them went through potty training etc. while sleeping on these mattresses. They look and smell clean, but I just don't know. Would you or wouldn't you use a used crib mattress? I took them because I figured that even if I decided not to use them I could just sale re-sale them on craigslist cheap and make a little bit of my money back.

Thanks!

I vote for new mattresses...you can get a fairly good one at Wal mart for $40 (or two for you!). They're probably fine, but that's what I'd do because I am too neurotic.
The cribs are beautiful...

I would get new mattresses, too. Then you don't have to worry about it. Congrats on the cribs!

I always live by the motto..."When in doubt, don't." Simple enough. :)

New. I don't think you'll regret spending the money on new mattresses. Mattresses wear down over time and need to be replaced anyway. Besides I would be totally grossed out.

Though we wanted to get a new mattress for Isaac when we moved, they cost so much more money here (roughly $200-300) that we just decided to let him sleep on the used one. Then again, Isaac isn't a newborn and new mattresses are way cheaper in the States. Spring for new!
